10 Top Tips for Growing Healthy Hair

Growing out my hair has been the bane of my life. I cut it all off (stupid girl) and then have been growing it ever since (bearing in mind I cut it off in 2006 - it is now 2016) trying to find the best ways to help it grow - these are some of the ones that worked best for me!

1. Get A Hair Cut Regularly
Cutting your hair on a regular basis, helps prevent split ends - this really, horrid, annoying thing that totally wrecks your hair and makes it frizzy ( I speak from experience) so getting a trim as often as your hair dresser would suggest will help prevent the split ends.

2. Lani Hair
Searching for products to help bring back some strength to my incredibly brittle hair. A product that will help smooth the frizz and to put a stop to the straw-like texture I have been struggling with. And Lani Hair did the job! I have been using it for almost a year now, and use it with pretty much every wash!

3. Mythic Oil
Another product for taming the split frizzy ends. This goes on dry hair - so after the first few days of washing my hair, it starts to get frizzy again. So I apply a small amount of Mythic Oil and rub it through my hair, which brings back the shine and reduces the frizz!

4. Avoid Using Heat
Straightening, Curling and Blow Drying your hair regularly dries it out so much! Avoid using heat as much as you can. There are hundreds of tutorials on heatless hairstyles on Youtube and Pinterest, pick a few you really like and master them. There are ways to get the pretty beachy waves, or ringlet curls. Avoid using heat as much as you can - and if you absolutely must, make sure you use a heat protector.

5. Don't Wash Your Hair Every Day
I used to wash my hair religiously, then I went to every other day - and now I have started going 5-6 days without washing it. Dry Shampoo is a wonderful thing, don't you know! Batiste Dry Shampoo is my go too, a quick spritz in the morning and I'm ready to go - it doesn't leave your hair feeling itchy, but fresh and bouncy!

6. Hair Masks
These are great fun! There are hundreds of homemade hair masks you can make, or alternatively you can buy them. Brilliant for a girls night in, slap on a hair mask to leave your hair healthy and shiny!

7. Avoid Pulling Your Hair Back Tight
Tying your hair up in a really tight bun or pony tail can cause a lot of damage to your hair. Avoid scraping your hair back to tightly, it can break and snap the hair which will result in more split ends!

8. Don't Brush Your Hair When Its Wet
Brushing your hair when its wet is a BIG no no! Raking a hairbrush through wet hair will again cause it to break and split. However, using a wide tooth comb is much better for you hair, its less harsh and causes much less damage. Its best to comb through your hair while the conditioner is still in, it makes it easier and gives the hair a protective barrier.

9. Tangle Teaser
Tangle Teasers are marvellous. I don't use hairbrushes at all. Its all about the Teaser!

10. Avoid dyeing it
I have dyed my hair numerous times, from highlights to chocolate brown 'wash-in-wash-outs' to Ombre, and my hair has suffered tremendously! Don't do it ladies!

  1. I'm catching up on all the posts I've missed ;) I definitely agree with this! I've dyed my hair enough to see it at it's best and to see it at it's absolute worst! We really should be taking care of our hair. Especially if we want it to grow! I just recently cut mine to the point where there was no more split ends (it was pretty bad) after dying it so much this past year it's gotten pretty unhealthy. I'm taking steps to help it grow and stay healthy. This post is really going to help me. Thanks! :)

    1. You're braver than me! My hair is so split and damaged, I need to cut it off and start fresh really, but I just can't do it! It's taken me 10 years to get my hair long again! I'm not going back on myself now! Hope it helps girly!
